How to fix HTTP 404 Not Found Error ?



For any amateur internet user, 404 Error shows up when he is trying to visit some webpage but couldn’t on his computer. Frustrating as much as it may seem,  people want to resolve it as soon as possible, but that needs proper analysis.

What is a 404 Not Found Error?

‘404 Not Found’ error codes are one of those standard HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) data stream response codes that signify that a web user is not able to locate a specified URL path on a server. This “Not Found” situation is similar to postal services where mails get returned to sender when location address is not found.

Occurring of a 404 error is a clear signal that internet connection is obviously there, but the client is not able to connect with server due to many possible reasons. Some of them could be- 

·   Webpage is either deleted,
·   Renamed without being redirected the old URL to a new page,
·   Any other typing mistake in link. 

HTTP 404 errors are displayed in different ways such as:

o   “HTTP 404 not found”

o   “404 Page Not Found”

o   “404 File not found”
o   “The requested url was not found on this server.”

How to deal with these errors?

A business can get adversely affected if its target audience (you) is trying to reach the website and witnessing the 404 error. Try out these simple steps given below that can probably help you to make the things simpler:

· First thing you should always do is pressing F5. Sometimes, simply retyping the URL in the address bar can help you out in such situation.
·Try clearing browser’s cache and cookies as it may help to clear the clutter that hampers your website from being loaded.
· Keep your computer well-protected from malware threats. It will help your website from being compromised with 404 errors if your computer is clean.
·To avoid any typing mistakes in the url while searching a particular webpage, better would be to check for errors in it.
· In the situations when a whole website is encountering with problems, you can try changing the DNS server that your computer uses. To avoid that, you should first check whether your website is working fine on other network through your tablet or phone. 

If you follow the above given steps, they will most probably troubleshoot your 404 errors and help you to locate the webpage that you are trying to visit. (If not, then it is most probably the issue with the site, and you can’t do much.)
