Computers, smart phones, and tablets have become very common today. We cannot imagine our life without a mobile and computer. If we are travelling and we do not have internet connection on our device, we are compelled to use public café’s just to update our social media profiles or to check emails.
But, is it safe to use a computer in public café’s?
Well, it depends on the way you use them. After using a public computer, you should follow the following tips: -
1. Never save any sensitive or personal information
While using a computer in a public café, it is recommended to not enter your financial details, like debit card details, credit card details, and bank account details. There may be key-loggers inside the computer that can save your keystrokes and mis-use them in future.
2. Never save your login passwords
In most of the social media sites, there is an option to save your login passwords. Always cross check whether the auto save of password is on or not. One more thing to note along these lines is that some browsers allow you to save your passwords for websites. When using a public PC, you will want to make sure you don’t allow the browser to save or store these passwords. Uncheck the box that says- “Keep me logged in.”
3. Do not let other people see what you are doing
It’s a bad habit of some individuals to peep into computer other than theirs to see what those people are doing and in some case, also to memorize your password in just a glance. Therefore, always be careful while using a computer in a café.
4. Delete the history
To hide your net activities from others, always delete your web history and clear all the cache and cookies.
5. Delete all your files from the computer
If you have downloaded any file (like your resume) or photo on the computer, remember to delete it before logging out. Keep in mind that to completely get rid of the file, you will need to empty the recycle bin as well.
