Smart Phone, Smarter Car

The recent CES 2015 exhibited amazing technology releases. One of them was, Nvidia X1- with power-driven dashboard in the Renovo Coupe. Automakers have been trying to introduce such useful electronics in dashboard of new models which could be operated through Smartphone.

There’s been a lot of research on connected car and connected home mechanism in recent years. Now that this trend has been initiated- integrated with GPS and navigation apps on Smartphones along with cars- it’s time that mobile processors like Tegra X1 would soon also come into integration.

The Innovation

1. Tegra X1- With Nvidia’s announcement of this processor in a recent press conference, there’s a buzz that this 256-core chipset is launched for future cars and mobile devices.

This device is more powerful than a supercomputer and can play multiple high-definition displays. If this chip is integrated in cars, it would add more power to the instrument cluster, infotainment displays and autonomous driving systems.

2. Qualcomm's concept car - Another concept at CES 2015 was Qualcomm's concept car which used video for rear- and side view mirrors, administered through Snapdragon 602A chip. The chip also was running an LCD- based instrument cluster and with an additional 602A chip, video feeds were being administered from external cameras for side and rear views in the car, along with other driver assistance functions.

The future cars would definitely benefit from the multiple sensor feeds including video, radar and laser scanners, phones will likely never go beyond a camera or two.

3. Oakland platform- Harman International had come up with a dashboard system designed for finest cars supporting multiple displays running upon the same chip. Oakland not only supported multiple displays but also the application store, head-up display, driver assistance systems, a gesture control interface, and even support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

4. Audi TT & Q7- The new Audi TT and Q7 is integrated with Tegra 30 chip and 4G/LTE data connections. The Q7 is again having additional infotainment display at the dashboard and contain two tablets for entertainment, music and navigation.

5. Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion concept- Mercedes Benz had come out with F 015(Luxury in motion concept), depicting the future of smart phone integrated with the automotive technology.

With these technological upgrades, it appears as if Smartphone would override the human life. The best part is that a single device would become remote control of all the other applications, devices and appliances. Stay tuned with this blog to see more upcoming technological advances.
