Protecting your iOS device can help you secure the device from potential threats or security violation of your personal information. You carry out your important activities on your iOS device like banking, mailing, shopping etc. All this sensitive information, if mishandled, can prove to be hazardous.

Apparently, now iOS has enhanced its security features to make your valuable data safe and secure. Protecting your iOS device can help you cut down the security risks, which might happen if you leave your device for too long.

Here are some interesting tips which you can use to protect your valuable data falling into the wrong hands:

1.       Using a Passcode:

The first thing you should do after buying your device is setting a passcode, so that trespassers can’t just start looking into your all your things. The settings can be made by following: Settings > General > Passcode lock > Turn Passcode ON. Try to set a difficult passcode for more safety.

2.       Control what’s displayed on the lock screen

With iOS7, users are able to access both the Control Center and Notifications from the lock screen without unlocking the device first. This is convenient but trespassers around you can access some of your personal data like calendar entries, text messages, etc. You can get some extra privacy by giving up this feature. You can manage what’s displayed by disabling the items from Notification center in Settings.

3.       Use Find My iPhone Activation Lock:

There is a latest feature in iOS 7, Find My iPhone Activation Lock. This lets you lock your phone through the Find my iPhone service. This feature makes it almost impossible for burglars to sell your device when it’s stolen, since they’ll need your Apple ID to unlock the device and restore functionality.

If you lose your device, put your device into Lost Mode by signing into icloud.com. After that, find and start the Find My iPhone service. Then, go to All Devices and pick your missing device from the list. Click the lost mode icon and enter a new four-digit passcode to ensure it is locked.

4.       Enable Do Not Track (DNT) in Safari and block cookies:

Try to keep your Web Browsing confidential. To keep things more private in Safari, go to Settings>Safari, turn on the Do Not Track feature and set block Cookies to forbid any kind of cookies from taking a note of what you are surfing and what not.

5.       Apply Latest Software Updates:

Always keep your software up-to-dated for iOS. Go to Settings>General>Software Updates. The device will automatically search for new updates. If any updates are available, install them.

6.       Disable Location Services Unless Needed

These days, many apps are Location Based which may cause some inconvenience. Since, location services can be used by malicious apps and/or web pages on your iOS devices to trace your location. The best option would be turning off Location Services completely. Go to Settings->Location Services. Set it to off.

In case, you like to keep using location services for maps, make sure that you don’t permit access to untrusted apps – only to those you know are not malicious.

After using these worthy suggestions, you’ll be able to secure your device from maximum possible threats.
