5 Steps to Take for the Safety of Your Laptop While Travelling

Security is of utmost concern when you are travelling with your laptop. The hardware and software of your notebook both require security while you are on the road. Begin with the protection of your physical laptop and then move on to the protection of software.

Some of the fundamental tips to keep your laptop safe (and not stolen) while travelling are given below:

1. Get a laptop bag that is travel and security-friendly. Don’t use a computer bag to place a laptop. Hide it in a briefcase or any other thing that doesn’t reveal that you have placed a laptop inside. Also, never keep this bag on the floor, as you can forget. Anyway, you can place it in-between your feet so as to remember where it is.

2. Keep your laptop with you as far as possible. If you are working in a public place, say a library and you have to go to toilet. You should pack up your bag and take with you. It is a problem but not that big problem in case your laptop is stolen.

3. Make certain that your system has antivirus installed on it. While this is no assurance that while on vacation you system cannot be infected by virus, it is still a good way of keeping your system secured.  There is no harm in making sure that your antivirus and software is updated before you go out on a travel.

4. Keep a backup of your data before leaving. Keeping a backup of your system data on a hard drive or the cloud before leaving assures that even if your laptop is stolen or attacked by a virus, your data (which is obviously more precious than your laptop) is safe.

5. Lock up your laptop. If the hotel in which you are staying has a safe, lock your laptop there. If you want to carry it on your car, place it on a trunk, before you move out of the car. This should not be done at the parking place as people with bad intentions can know you have expensive equipment in your car.

There isn’t any golden rule to assure the protection of your laptop. However, with a harmonious blend of the tips above along with your understanding, the chances of your laptop being stolen or the loss of data gets minimized. If still you have any doubt regarding you can leave comments.
